Alum-A-Lift Designs an Industrial Mobile Lift Solution for Heavy Machining Fixtures
A large aerospace manufacturer’s machining department had a lifting problem associated with the routine maintenance of a precision lathe. This critical material handling task required a 500 lb. lathe saddle, which was dangerous and cumbersome to lift, to be removed during service. As a result, several machinists assisted by a portable chain hoist were needed to lift the part and get it to the service bench.
A Weaver Technologies representative was asked to visit the company, observe the application and make recommendations for an ergonomic lift assist solution. With the help of the engineering department at Alum-A-Lift, we designed an industrial mobile lift solution that enabled one machinist to manage the lifting operation. Now only one machinist is needed to perform the following routine: roll the Alum-A-Lift up to the lathe, attach a harness connected to a 500 lb. capacity boom (extending from the Alum-A-Lift), disengage the saddle from the lathe, lift the heavy part aided by the upward lift of the smooth ball screw action, then using the power drive, critically move the material to the service bench and set it down for the handling to be done.
Our client was very satisfied with the portable lift solution, and after integrating the lift into daily operations, commented, “We have several Alum-A-Lifts with power drives at the company; the operators find the ease of travel and reduced effort for moving heavy loads a relief.”
