Air Ionizing Bar Stops Operators from getting Shocked by Static

The Problem

A major paper converter in the Portland area called Weaver Technologies and explained they had a roll-to-roll slitter/rewinder that was developing high levels of static electricity when running coated paper. The problem was that operators were getting shocked off the rolls and also when they touched the machine. The company needed to find a solution because they cared about their employees and this operator shocking was unpleasant, unsafe and decreased productivity.

The Solution

Weaver Technologies made an onsite visit to assess the situation and offer help.  With the use of an electrostatic field meter, Weaver measured static charge levels in excess of 20,000 volts during this rewind operation.  After careful evaluation on the process, Weaver recommended the customer install 2 - Simco-Ion R50 Blue Bars.  These bars were sized to be wide enough to neutralize the entire width of the web.  To achieve maximum benefit the bars were mounted where there was free air space above and below the paper.

The Result

The installation of the Simco-Ion R50 Blue Bar successfully eliminated the electrostatic charges generated by the high-speed movement of paper and the safety hazard was eliminated, and productivity improved.
