Solar Silicon Manufacturer Reduces Contaminants with Modular Cleanroom
This client provides a wide variety of solar-grade polysilicon for various solar applications including granular polysilicon, Siemens rod sections, chunks and chips. Their materials are used in various solar processes including CZ monocrystalline–based ingot/wafer manufacturing, casting multicrystalline–based ingot/wafer manufacturing, and novel wafer applications such as string ribbon and molded wafer.
Problem
In order to provide the highest-quality polysilicon, the client performs trace metal testing on lot samples of production material. This testing measures to parts per trillion (PPT) of metals; sodium, calcium and aluminum (to name a few). Because contamination was biasing their testing, they wanted to enclose their test equipment inside a class 100/ISO class 6 cleanroom. Their lead scientist called Weaver Technologies to provide an analysis of what enclosure would work best in their situation, taking cost, function and facility size into consideration.
The Solution
Weaver Technologies met onsite with the client, and through collaboration with Simplex and CRI, a cleanroom design was agreed upon, ordered and implemented.
The Result
A Simplex AirLock cleanroom was constructed on site. All aluminum surfaces were powder coated white and 99.997% eff motorized HEPA-filtered fan units were installed. The customer was able to incorporate the enclosure into their existing lab space, and keep costs and airborne contamination under control.
